TOPIC: “Make It Better: A Blueprint for Manufacturing in Northeast Ohio”

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

Dr. Ethan Karp is an expert in transforming companies and communities. As President and CEO of MAGNET, he has helped hundreds of manufacturing companies grow through technology, innovation, and talent. Dr. Karp is passionate about driving economic prosperity in Northeast Ohio. He’s a committed change-maker and community builder. He serves as Board Chair of Cleveland/Cuyahoga County Workforce Development and as a Director on the boards of the following organizations: American Small Manufacturers Coalition, Cleveland Leadership Center, MidTown Cleveland, Inc., Cleveland Jewish Publication Company, and the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland. Dr. Karp is a recognized thought leader and a frequent national media commentator on the future of manufacturing in America, including a regular column in Forbes. Before joining MAGNET in 2013, he worked with Fortune 500 companies at McKinsey & Co. Dr. Karp received undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and physics from Miami University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Biology from Harvard University. He currently resides in Cleveland with his wife and three daughters.

TOPIC: “Navigating the Intersection of Innovation & Healthcare”

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: David comes to UH Ventures with more than 30 years of diverse corporate experience, most recently following a successful 15 year career in capital markets and investment
banking, where he led a derivatives’ trading and public finance investment banking platform. David helped establish and build teams and operational platforms across the United States. Prior to this, David spent 8 years in a variety of responsibilities at the sports marketing giant, IMG. He started his career in public accounting with Deloitte in Johannesburg, South Africa. David is an adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University’s (CWRU) Weatherhead School of Business in their department of Design & Innovation. David received a Bachelors in Commerce and Business Law from the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg, South Africa, and an MBA from the CWRU Weatherhead School of Management.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Kim Katzenberger, Group CFO, The Riverside Company

TOPIC: “Accelerating Growth and Transforming Finance at Smaller Middle Market Businesses”

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: 

Mr. Kim Katzenberger joined Riverside in 2012.  He started as a Finance Director supervising the CFOs and finance functions at six portfolio companies in Riverside’s Microcap Fund.  He was promoted to Group CFO of the Microcap Fund in 2014.  Before joining Riverside, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Fiji Water Company, an international consumer products business.  Previously, he held several positions at General Electric, including Vice President-FP&A at NBC’s TV Group, Finance Integration Leader at GE Consumer Products, CFO of GE’s LED lighting division, and Director of FP&A at MSNBC Cable.  He holds an AB in Economics from Dartmouth and an MBA from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

M&A continues to be top of mind for financial and corporate development leaders as we live through the largest concentration of deals in industrial history — the numbers are staggering. Unfortunately, the results for acquirer’s shareholders, on average, are disappointing and can be traced back to a variety of problems. We will discuss the key themes of The Synergy Solution and the M&A cascade, including M&A strategy, valuation, Announcement Day, and integration that illustrate the required connectedness across the cascade.

TOPIC: “All-In Towards a Great Region on a Great Lake”

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:

Baiju R. Shah is the President & CEO of Greater Cleveland Partnership, the region’s leading economic development organization and with over 12,000 members, the largest metropolitan chamber of commerce in the nation. Guided by a board of corporate and entrepreneurial CEOs, the organization focuses on accelerating growth and prosperity through strategic initiatives, business services, real estate, and advocacy.

Prior to GCP, Shah served as the Senior Fellow for Innovation at The Cleveland Foundation, the world’s first community foundation with assets of $2.8 billion. His work centered on catalyzing growth initiatives for the region including leading the Cleveland Innovation Project. Shah remains a member of the Impact Investing Board Committee which directs a $150 million portfolio allocation of the foundation.

Shah has been named an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and recognized as one of Cleveland’s most influential leaders. He received a JD from Harvard Law School and a BA from Yale University.
